Michael Wildermuth Joins Vocon as Senior Technical Director
New Hire Enhances Design Firm’s Architectural Expertise
CLEVELAND (August 2017) – Vocon, one of the largest architecture and design firms in the country as well as one of the top 40 firms internationally, announces the addition of Michael Wildermuth, AIA, as its new Senior Technical Director. With more than 30 years in the industry, Wildermuth brings an expert understanding of design to the firm, looking at projects with an eye to the implications of technical project delivery, building codes and regulatory and environmental requirements.
An ideal fit for Vocon’s dedication to producing innovative, strategic design results for its clients – and relationship-based culture – Wildermuth prides himself on creating spaces that are both functional and beautiful, focused on fostering a collaborative design process that makes the most of the team’s knowledge and resources to create an impactful design solution. Throughout his career, he has effectively managed architectural design and construction services personnel to provide programming, design, code analysis, contract documents, construction administration and interior design services for a wide variety of public and private sector clients – expertise that will serve him incredibly well in his new role.
“We are thrilled to welcome Michael to the Vocon family,” says Debbie Donley, Founder and Principal at Vocon. “His breadth of experience will be an invaluable resource both for our staff and our clients, helping to take our architectural practice to the next level.”
In his new position, Wildermuth will focus on developing technical resources firm-wide, leveraging his reputation and experience as a Registered Architect and State and International Code Council (ICC) certified Master Plans Examiner and Code Official to ensure all projects are anchored in the realities of architectural technology, budget, schedule and government regulations. His successful track record in project administration, with particular emphasis on code compliance, technical delivery and constructability, and construction project administration will add tangible value to each project, helping the firm to define and develop its processes and standards.
His background also will enhance the firm’s depth of architectural knowledge and experience, helping Vocon to further develop its full-scale architectural capabilities and serving as a resource and mentor to other staff.
“When I met the Vocon team, we immediately clicked, from our cultural values to our approach to design,” says Wildermuth. “I am so happy to have joined this talented group of colleagues, and I’m eager to help refine our architectural process and point of view. Vocon already is committed to design excellence, and I’m looking forward to working together to raise the bar even further.”
Before joining Vocon, Wildermuth’s most recent roles include serving as Senior Project Manager at RDL Architects; Senior Associate/Project Executive at C.C. Hodgson Architectural Group; Senior Project Manager at Moody Nolan Inc.; and Senior Associate/Project Executive at Dorsky Hodgson Parrish Yue Architects.
Wildermuth has taught building codes and standards classes at Ursuline College and Virginia Marti College of Art and Design, as well as led seminars internally and at local, state and national conferences. Additionally, he actively collaborates with the Chicago office of ICC on complex code interpretations and was the first architect to work with ICC to interpret the original version of the IBC codes in an actual plan review for senior living. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the International Code Council (ICC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from The Ohio State University.
