Vocon Partners with Rising Star Coffee Roasters to Design New Lakewood Location

Standalone storefront aims to open November 15

CLEVELAND (October 2017) – Vocon, one of the largest architecture and design firms in the country as well as one of the top 40 firms internationally, has partnered with Rising Star Coffee Roasters to design its newest location in Lakewood. Aiming to open officially on November 15, the storefront offers the full line of the brand’s coffees, as well as pastries and other snacks, and serves as the company’s first location outside of Cleveland proper.

When considering the aesthetic of the new storefront, Rising Star challenged Vocon to create a space that reflects the brand’s approachable, easygoing vibe, while still being modern and refined – a sort of rustbelt chic, with emphasis on the chic.

“Vocon has been a wonderful partner throughout this process,” says Robert Stockham, general manager at Rising Star. “We trusted them to make their best recommendations for the space, and they delivered just the look and functionality we were hoping for.”

With two rooms separated by a wall, the storefront offers possibilities for community events that previous Rising Star locations haven’t been able to support.

“We knew from Rising Star’s other shops that it was critical to create a space where customers can relax and meet with others,” says Bud Perry, project designer at Vocon. “With the additional room in this location, we wanted to take that idea one step further and offer even more opportunities for community engagement. The furniture moves easily to allow Rising Star to use the space in multiple ways, whether it’s setting up a stage area for entertainment, or closing off one room to host private events or educational coffee classes.”

Offering a unique mix of amenities to customers, the new location is connected to BottleHouse Brewing Company, allowing guests to go back and forth between the two spaces, and enjoy both coffee and handcrafted brews during the same visit. A shared enclosed patio offers space to relax and enjoy. While construction was underway, Rising Star had a popup shop inside the brewery, starting to build its customer base in the area.

“Everyone in Lakewood has been so welcoming to us,” adds Stockham. “While we’ve had a presence in Lakewood via our wholesalers for some time, we’re so excited to finally have our own permanent location in this amazing community.”
