City life can be expensive, particularly if you’re a student. With the Avant 220, we helped design small, affordable apartments that let students live big.
Skirting campus and downtown, the units were designed to give students the opportunity to live downtown at a price point usually only available with multiple roommates.
The developer wanted to create the first micro-unit apartment building in Ohio, spaces they could bill as being “as rare as the people who find them.” The 350-square-foot units “live big” with custom-designed kitchens and custom, built-in closet and storage solutions, and a built-in work desk.
Our design marks a transition from the traditional language of downtown Kent to the more recent, contemporary language of the adjacent institutional and campus buildings. The façade offers a clear visual palette that distinguishes it from more cluttered apartment building designs in the area.
